Algeria formally acceded to the Apostille Convention on 5 November 2025 and will officially implement it starting 9 July 2026.
From that date, a single Apostille attestation will be able to fully replace consular legalization for documents circulating between Algeria and other Convention member states, streamlining the legalization process and reducing administrative burdens for applicants and rights holders.
Quick Facts
| Accession Date | 5 November 2025 |
| Implementation Date | 9 July 2026 |

What does this mean for IP filings in Algeria?
Once implemented, applicants and rights holders should be able to authenticate foreign public documents used in Algerian IP filings such as powers of attorney or corporate documents through a single Apostille rather than the multi-step consular legalization chain, reducing both time and cost.

What are we still waiting on?
The National Algerian Office for Industrial Property (INAPI) has not yet issued a circular or operational guidance confirming how apostilled documents will be accepted in practice. Until that guidance is published, applicants should continue to follow current legalization requirements and confirm procedure with local counsel closer to the 9 July 2026 implementation date
Note: Implementation is confirmed for 9 July 2026, but INAPI operational guidance is still pending. Legacy Partners will issue a follow-up update once that guidance is published.
