Trademark Registration in Belgium: Protect Your Brand Across the EU

Trademark protection in Belgium is administered through the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP), which provides a unified trademark system covering Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Trademarks are governed by the Benelux Convention on Intellectual Property (BCIP). A single application filed with BOIP grants protection across all three Benelux countries. The Office conducts formal examination and substantive examination limited to absolute grounds, while conflicts with earlier rights are addressed through opposition proceedings. Additionally, applicants may obtain broader protection across all EU member states via the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
