The Ministry of Economy and Trade is responsible for the administration of Lebanon’s economic affairs. Hence, the Ministry is dedicated to elaborating, coordinating, and implementing all the works in the field of trade, economy and supply.
Trademarks are provided protection under the “Regulations and Systems of Commercial, Industrial, Literary, Artistic and Musical Property in Lebanon” (the 1924 law). The 1924 Law does not explicitly protect notorious trademarks and geographical indications. However, those are provided protection via Lebanon`s membership in the Paris Convention and the Madrid Agreement, respectively.

How the Lebanon Trademark Registration Works
The Lebanon trademark registration system follows a structured sequence of reviews, publications, and legal checks. These steps ensure that trademarks meet all statutory requirements and remain protected over time.
Filing
A trademark is filed in the Office of Intellectual Property of Lebanon with the Official fees. The application includes applicant details, representation of the mark, and specification of goods/services under the Nice Classification.
Formal Examination
The Office of Intellectual Property of Lebanon will examine the trademark within one week with respect to form and prior rights that exist. If prior rights exist, the application will not be rejected directly; it would be necessary to sign a Notice of Similarity as an acknowledgement of taking note of the cited trademark registration.
Acceptance and Registration
Once the trademark has been accepted, the publication fee and registration fee will be paid, and the trademark will be deemed registered. The registration of a trademark is completed within two weeks, and the certificate of registration will be issued within three weeks from the registration date.
Publication
The trademark registration is published in the Lebanese Official Gazette within four months for informational purposes. There is no Opposition procedure at the Office of Intellectual Property of Lebanon.
Validity & Renewal
All new trademarks registered through the Office of Intellectual Property of Lebanon are now valid for 10 years from the filing date and may be renewed for successive 10-year periods, unlike the 15-year protection earlier.

Applicant’s name and address
POA signed by the Applicant, notarised before a Notary Public and legalised up to the Lebanese Consulate in the Applicant’s country.
Copy of ID proof of the Applicant (Passport for Individuals, Business registration certificate/Certificate of Incorporation for companies)
A certified copy of the Home registration or an application has to be filed within three months from the filing date when priority is claimed.
