Global trademark search: frequently asked questions
What is a global trademark search?
A global trademark search checks whether marks identical or similar to yours are already registered or pending in other countries. Our screening uses WIPO's Global Brand Database, which brings together trademark data from national and regional offices, and a licensed trademark lawyer reviews the results and gives you a written opinion on the risk.
Which countries does the US$49 search cover?
Up to 3 registers of your choice from the 54 national and regional registers listed on this page, including the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, India, the European Union (EUIPO), the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and international registrations under the Madrid System. For more than 3 registers, or for another mark, simply place another order.
Is this a full trademark clearance search?
No. It is a preliminary screening based on WIPO Global Brand Database data, which can lag behind the national registers. It is ideal for an early go/no-go decision. Before filing or launching in an important market, we recommend a full national search with a detailed legal opinion, which we quote separately.
What does the lawyer's opinion include?
A summary of identical and similar marks found in each selected register, a low / medium / high risk rating for your mark in each one, and our recommendation: file, adapt the mark, or carry out a full national search first. The report is reviewed and signed by a qualified, licensed trademark lawyer.
How quickly will I receive the report?
Within 24 working hours of payment (Monday to Friday, UAE time). Orders received on a weekend or public holiday are handled on the next working day.
My country is not on the list. Can you still search it?
Yes, by manual search. Some registers, such as Saudi Arabia and China, are not available (or not up to date) in the Global Brand Database, so we do not include them in this screening. Tell us the countries in the order form and we will email you a quote for a manual national search.
How is the price calculated?
US$49 is a fixed fee per order: one mark (word or logo), up to 3 classes and up to 3 registers. To search more countries or another mark, place another order at the same price.
Can you search a logo?
Yes. We search the word elements and run an image-similarity search on your logo in the Global Brand Database, then review the closest results.
This service is a preliminary trademark screening based on data from WIPO's Global Brand Database and is provided by Legacy Partners. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by WIPO. Database records may be incomplete or delayed compared with the official national registers, and the screening does not cover unregistered marks, company names or domain names. The report is a professional opinion on the date of the search and is not a guarantee that a mark can be registered or used without objection. A full national search is recommended before filing or launching in a key market.
