Trademark registration process in Algeria

Here is how to register a trademark in Algeria, step by step.

The Algeria trademark registration system follows a structured sequence of reviews, publications, and legal checks. These steps ensure that trademarks meet all statutory requirements and remain protected over time.

  1. Filing

Trademark applications are filed with INAPI through a locally appointed trademark agent. The application includes applicant particulars, representation of the mark, and specification of goods/services in accordance with the Nice Classification. An application number is issued upon filing.

  2. Examination

INAPI conducts a formal and substantive examination to assess registrability, including distinctiveness and compliance with Algerian trademark law

  3. Publication

If accepted, the trademark application is published in the Official Industrial Property Bulletin.

  4. Opposition Period

Third parties may file an opposition within 60 days from the date of publication.

  5. Registration

If no opposition is filed, or if opposition proceedings are resolved in favor of the applicant, the trademark proceeds to registration and a certificate is issued.

  6. Validity & Renewal

Trademarks are protected for 10 years from the date of registration and may be renewed indefinitely for successive 10-year terms upon payment of renewal fees.
