Trademark registration process in Albania
Here is how to register a trademark in Albania, step by step.
The Albania trademark registration system follows a structured sequence of reviews, publications, and legal checks. These steps ensure that trademarks meet all statutory requirements and remain protected over time.
Filing
Trademark applications are filed with the General Directorate of Industrial Property (GDIP), either online or in paper form. The application must include the mark specimen, the applicant’s details such as name and address, and the list of goods and services by class. If the application is filed through an agent, a power of attorney is required.
Examination
GDIP conducts a formal examination of the application, which may take up to 3 months.
Publication
If the application is complete, it is published in the Industrial Property Bulletin, which is issued quarterly.
Opposition Period
Third parties may file an opposition within 3 months from the date of publication.
Registration
If no opposition is filed, or if the opposition is decided in favour of the applicant, GDIP registers the trademark and issues the registration certificate.
Validity & Renewal
A trademark is valid for 10 years from the filing date. It may be renewed indefinitely for further 10-year periods. Renewal requests may be filed up to 6 months before expiry, and a further 6-month grace period is available after expiry, subject to surcharge.
